Donald Rae Mocaby

Donald Rae Mocaby, 80, of Whittington, IL, passed away the evening of September 12, 2026, while holding his loving wife’s hand.

Donald was born May 9, 1946, the middle of five boys born to Johnie and Jean (McNeil) Mocaby. He grew up in rural Thompsonville, where he attended grade school and high school.

On October 2, 1993, he married Patricia Martin in Murfreesboro, TN. Most of his life, Donald was an over-the-road truck driver. He owned his own trucking business, 37 Express, until failing health required him to retire.

Donald enjoyed restoring his antique John Deere tractor and competed in tractor pulls. He and Pat loved to travel on their Harley Trike. They were quite a dancing couple and performed with the Wagon Wheelers Square Dancing Group at many functions.

Donald is survived by many loving family members and friends, including his daughters, Nova Emmons and husband, Rod, of Thompsonville, and Donna Mocaby of West Frankfort; stepchildren, Joy Campbell and husband, Larry, of Lebanon, TN, Troy Martin of Ashley, IL, and John Martin and wife, Tracy, of Woodlawn, IL; grandchildren, Jordan Osterhout and wife, Lacey, Amelia Osterhout, Mason Osterhout, Morgan Osterhout, Eric Tarvin and wife, Reeny, and Jessica Underwood and husband, Wyatt; great-grandchildren, Lana, Weldon, Ash, Trendan, and Willow; brother, Paul Mocaby and wife, Debbie, of West Frankfort; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Rick and Carol Bragg of Hartsville, TN; and sister-in-law, Georgina Mocaby of Irvine, CA.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Johnie and Jean (McNeil) Mocaby, and his brothers, Lyndel, George, and Carl.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to family member Tina Riley and Benton Rehab for the care provided to Donald.

Memorials may be made to Liberty Cemetery and will be accepted at Sloan Funeral Home.

Funeral Services

Visitation will be held at Sloan Funeral Home in Galatia, IL, on Saturday, September 19, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.

Masonic Rites will be held at 12:30 p.m., followed by funeral services at 1:00 p.m.
