Ella Jean Tuttle, 74, of Galatia, Illinois passed away Sunday, June 15, 2025, at Carbondale Memorial Hospital . Ella was born on September 22, 1950, in Harrisburg to the late Jay W. and Lela Fay (Hall) Akins.
Ella married James Floyd Tuttle on November 14,1967, at Union Grove Baptist Church. James preceded her in death on April 1, 1990. Ella Jean was raised in Galatia all of her life. She was of Baptist faith and attended Galatia First Baptist Church until her health made it to hard to attend. Ella Jean loved to cook and have Sunday dinners. She also enjoyed playing cards with family around the table. Ella Jean was a very passionate RN for over 30 years. She loved her job, patients and the many people she worked with over her long time as a nurse. Her favorite singer was Elvis. Ella Jean loved her family and the time she was able to spend with all of them.
Ella Jean is survived by one son, James (Cheryl) Tuttle of Galatia; three grandchildren, James Tuttle, John Tuttle, Jessica Tuttle all of Galatia; three nieces, Niki, Katrina, Amber and one sister-in-law, Sharon Akins along with several great nieces and nephews.
Ella Jean was preceded in death by her husband, James Floyd Tuttle; parents, Jay W. and Lela Fay (Hall) Akins, and two brothers, Joe and Steve Akins.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 19, 2025, at Sloan Funeral Home at 12:00 p.m. with visitation from 10:00 a.m. until funeral hour. Burial will follow in Mt. Moriah Cemetery in Harrisburg with Pastor Gaylon Parks officiating.
