About Us

Roswell Sloan started working at the old funeral home in 1965 when it was called Courtney Funeral Home. Dutch Courtney passed away in 1967 and Roswell took over. Roswell ran the funeral home until he and Lawrence Bell were tragically killed in a car accident on December 2, 1979 on the East end of town in Galatia. Kenneth had been gone to mortuary school in Nashville, TN since August of that same year. Upon Kenneth's completion of school in June of 1981 he took over Sloan Funeral Home. Kenneth and his mother, Helen worked alongside each other until she retired around 1988. The new funeral home was built in 1996 and is where we continue to serve families today.

In 1988 Kenneth bought Cosby Funeral Home in Creal Springs, IL. The following year a new funeral home was built directly beside the original one. We continue to serve families at Cosby Sloan Funeral Home along with our Galatia location.
